Planning for a Feast

Barbara over at Writing from the Inside Out does a great little series on her blog called "Friday Feast," in which she comes up with a menu of questions for folks to answer. This week's was really interesting to me, so I wanted to carry it over here and see what sorts of answers you have for it. I've taken the liberty of dropping my answers in right after the questions, just to get the ball rolling.

Be sure, too, to drop by her blog and pay her a visit -- always some good stuff there.

Appetizer: Say there’s a book written about your life. Who would you want to narrate the audio version?

Well, I'll have to give two here -- had the book been written several years ago, I would have said Gregory Peck. However, if it's going to be written in the future, I'd say it's a tie between James Earl Jones and Alexander Scourby. David McCullough also has a good reading voice. Okay, that's more than two....

Soup: Take the letters from your favorite kind of nut and write a sentence.

Really don't like nuts, unless they're in cookies or brownies -- and that would make the sentence way to long if I took that into account.

Salad: If you could go back in time and spend one week in another decade, which decade would you choose?

The 1920s -- I've always wanted to experience what life was like in the "Roaring '20s" prior to the stock market crash. I guess, in particularly, I'd be looking for the Gatsby-esque lifestyle.

Main Course: Name a song that brings back memories for you.

I can't narrow it to just one -- every song brings back some sort of memory for me.

Dessert: Do you prefer to wash your hands in cold water or warm water?

Whichever is fastest, but ideally really warm water.

Emma Thompson -- Her accent would make my life sound so important and dignified.
Please eat cats and nachos.
1950s -- After WWII but before the baby boomers changed society so drastically. I'd like to see what it was like before commercialism and anger permeated life.
"Celebration" by Kool and the Gang makes me think of the high school pep rally I was at (11th grade) in which they played this song while the cheerleaders did a dance routine. One girl dropped the pompoms and had to run back to pick them up after they had all danced off. It was so memorable because it was the only time the cheerleaders did something other than normal cheers.
Warm water, of course.

How sweet of you to link to me. Just to be sure no one gets the wrong idea - I get the Friday's Feasts questions from another site. I come up with all the other questions on my blog, but by Friday my brain is done :)

I'm gonna check out your post on Bourne!

A Friday Feast - interesting concept...

Appetizer: A book written about me? How bizarre would THAT be? I suppose to match the wonder of it all I would choose either Bud Robertson (at VT) or Elmer Fudd - "His wife (life that is!) was weally gweat, a twemendous journey!"

Soup: Can anyone see how easily Wayne sings?

Salad (my favorite part of ANY meal): I would like to go back to the 1890s to hear my great-great grandfather preach a sermon!

Main course: My song would be "Primrose Lane" (written and sung before you and probably most of your blog friends were even born!) - it was the class theme song for my senior year in high school. "Life's a holiday on Primrose Lane..." And life has been just that - a holiday, full of the excitement of anticipated events, sadness that you couldn't do it all on a holiday, weariness from trying to make everything work out for everyone...

Then, of course, there's "The Name Game"...

Dessert: I prefer warm water - of course, I am probably missing the significance here... perhaps a better question would be: do you prefer washing your hands or not?

Oh well, onward and upward...

I would like my life to be told/narrated as a musical. I can come up with all the music. Kind of like a not so drugged up version of The Wall (Pink Floyd) and The Rose. (Janis Joplin)

Soup: Take the letters from your favorite kind of nut and write a sentence.

Personally I cannot do this. Every sentence I have tried to write sounds STUPID!

Salad: If you could go back in time and spend one week in another decade, which decade would you choose?

The 40s. For some reason I am in this phase of the big band era and USO type things. I know odd don't you think. I would really love to be around people like the Andrew Sisters and people like them. That was style and music back then.

Main Course: Name a song that brings back memories for you.

Pictures of You by The Cure. For reasons that I choose not to go in to. :)

Dessert: Do you prefer to wash your hands in cold water or warm water?

Warm water. Makes me feel cleaner.
