A cereal box with a clown on the front from 1969 had my focus. “Kaboom” How then did I come to read your blog? Regardless, I was interested while reading “The Choice of the Episcopal Church: Prosperity, or the Poor?”, but for a moment, about the desire of the church (re: man) to build vice give. I began to analyze; financial advice is wise; to build or not to build; easy come, easy go; starving homeless people in the city; the poor, the masses of poor might not benefit from the new structure; maybe they prefer a sandwich; a salary of how much? So it was then I lost interest when I was reminded that god is good, but man is corrupt. Put man in charge of that size of a bounty and he will greedily act. I do not judge vengefully. I too am a sinner; a realist; but a man. Matthew 5:45
The other thing to keep in mind, of course, is that every human being commits evil acts. There is no person who has never done anything hateful or evil: sometimes those things are broadcast all over the media, sometimes they are very, very carefully hidden. We cannot love the sin that put Him on that cross. But we can love the human He did it for (including ourselves ). But to endorse and support what He has clearly defined as sin and wrong is not really truly loving people. I know of two who did - but they believe they could worship the Resurrection in a cornfield and still worship in Spirit abd truth -- God does not inhabit buildings. Many community leaders attended -- and from the number of people who did not join in singing of hymns or the prayers (good view from the balcony) it was obvious they were not Episcopalian
-- but that's ok -- for whatever reason they were
present. I've heard and read that this has been common where Canadian Anglicans and American Episcopalians have recovered their churches after legal disputes. I presume it is because such folk just contintued to worship where they worshiped and felt that the overarching legal issue had little to do with them. (Often true, in a sense, since such attempted schisms are virtually always clergy driven.)Malcolm+https://www.blogger.com/profile/08469936715413110334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26966147.post-59593046179894523992012-04-08T18:48:36.984-04:002012-04-08T18:48:36.984-04:00Beautiful Matt. I haven't read it myself. I am curious though. I have read Drops Like Stars by Rob Bell and so loved it! He has such a way with words and the way that he sees things is so abstract and just pulls at the heart strings. It so made me think about life. I was wondering if this book did the same or if he really is taking away from scriptures to form a universal form of thinking.

Have you read more of the book?
